How to Get Into NTU: AY2027/28 Dates, Requirements and Fees

13 min read
Domed university building illustration on the cover of a guide to getting into NTU Singapore for 2027 entry

If you want to know how to get into NTU, start with three things: the right application window for your qualification, the subject prerequisites for your chosen programme, and strong final grades. Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) has now published its dates for 2027 admission (AY2027/28). This guide pulls the official facts into one place, so you can plan from Grade 9 to offer day.

Key takeaways

  • NTU's AY2027/28 windows are out: A-Level applicants apply from results day to 19 March 2027; polytechnic applicants apply from 1 to 21 February 2027.
  • IB and most international applications opened on 15 October 2026. Many close on 19 March 2027, but some (for example Australia, Canada and "other" qualifications) close on 20 January 2027.
  • Engineering and most computing programmes need strong maths. For A-Level, that usually means an H2 pass in Mathematics.
  • The application fee is S$15 for Singapore Citizens and PRs and S$25 for international applicants. It is non-refundable.
  • PRs and international students who take the MOE Tuition Grant must work for a Singapore entity for three years after graduating.

How to get into NTU: what does it actually take?

Quick answer: To get into NTU, apply through the portal for your qualification within its window, choose up to five programmes, pay the fee and upload documents on time. Meet each programme's subject prerequisites (often H2 Maths for engineering). Then compete on grades, plus interviews or tests where a programme asks for them.

NTU's undergraduate programmes sit in the College of Computing and Data Science, the College of Engineering, the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, the College of Science, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Nanyang Business School. There is also the Renaissance Engineering Programme and programmes with the National Institute of Education.

Admission is competitive. NTU says meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place, especially for non-citizens. Treat every minimum here as the floor, not the target.

When can you apply to NTU for AY2027/28?

NTU sets a different window for each qualification. The dates below come from NTU's important dates page and its international qualifications page. Dates can change, so always check the official page before you apply.

Which subjects do you need for engineering and computing?

This is where many students get caught. NTU's minimum subject requirements for A-Level students (correct as at November 2026) say:

  • Computer Science: an H2 pass in Mathematics, or an H2 pass in Physics or Computing.
  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence: an H2 pass in Mathematics.
  • Computer Engineering and College of Engineering programmes (for example Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical and Electronic, Civil): an H2 pass in Mathematics and an H2 pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Computing.
  • Renaissance Engineering Programme: the same H2 Maths and science rule, plus a selection test or interview.
  • Medicine: an H2 pass in Chemistry and an H2 pass in Biology or Physics, plus UCAT results, a personal statement and two online referee reports. There is also an interview or test.

American high school students also need AP Physics C where Physics is a minimum subject. For India Standard 12, NTU says Business Mathematics and Applied Mathematics do not meet its senior-level Mathematics rule.

If you are on A-Levels, our A-Level Maths guide explains the content you will need. IB students can read our IB Diploma Programme guide, Indian students can see our CBSE board exams 2027 guide, and Chinese students can read our Gaokao guide.

What are NTU's English language requirements?

You need an English test if English was not your medium of study, or if your qualification is on NTU's mandatory list. That list includes the PRC Gaokao, Taiwan GSAT, South Korea CSAT, HKDSE, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia qualifications.

Test NTU minimum
IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, with 6.5 in Writing and Speaking
TOEFL iBT 90 total, with 25 in Writing and Speaking
PTE Academic 55 overall, with 55 Speaking and 59 Writing
C1 Advanced 170 overall, with 170 Writing and Speaking
SAT 1250 total, with 600 Reading and Writing
ACT (with Writing, single sitting) Composite 30, English 30, Writing 7

IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and C1 Advanced scores must be from the last two years. SAT and ACT scores are valid for five years. NTU says late test results are not considered. Not sure which American test suits you? Read our SAT vs ACT comparison.

What grades do you need for NTU?

NTU publishes an Indicative Grade Profile (IGP) for A-Level and polytechnic applicants. It shows the 10th and 90th percentile of offers. NTU says criteria vary from programme to programme and from year to year, so treat these as a guide only.

Programme A-Level 10th / 90th percentile (3H2/1H1) Polytechnic GPA 10th / 90th percentile
Medicine AAA/A / AAA/A Not shown
Computer Science AAB/C / AAA/A 3.78 / 3.98
Data Science and AI AAB/B / AAA/A 3.89 / 4.00
Mechanical Engineering CCD/C / AAA/A 3.49 / 3.91

The IGP assumes a grade C in GP and Project Work, and it includes offers made under aptitude-based admissions. NTU does not publish an IB grade profile. It says its IB applicant numbers are too small for a meaningful one.

What is aptitude-based admissions (ABA)?

ABA lets NTU look at more than grades. A-Level and polytechnic applicants have an ABA appraisal form deadline (24 March 2027 for A-Level and 24 February 2027 for polytechnic). NTU also says H3 subjects do not count in the University Admission Score, but students who took them may be considered under ABA.

How do you apply to NTU, step by step?

NTU's application process page sets out four steps.

Flow chart of the four steps to apply to NTU The NTU application flow in four steps. First, pick the portal that matches your qualification. Second, fill in the online form and choose up to five programmes. Third, pay the application fee by PayNow, VISA or MasterCard. Fourth, upload documents from the checklist in the Check Status portal.

  1. Pick the right portal. There are separate portals for A-Level, polytechnic, IB, NUS High School and international qualifications.
  2. Submit the online form. Add your details, results and up to five programme choices. Tick the Tuition Grant option if you are a PR or international student and want it.
  3. Pay the fee. It is S$15 for Singapore Citizens and PRs and S$25 for international students. NTU says the fee is non-refundable, whatever the outcome.
  4. Upload documents. Use the checklist in the Check Status portal. International applicants must upload documents within 3 days after the closing date.

Art, Design and Media needs a portfolio. Medicine and the Renaissance Engineering Programme need a personal statement and extra documents. If your results are not out yet, NTU wants them within 3 days of release, or your application can be treated as incomplete.

Does NTU have interviews or tests?

Yes, for some programmes and some qualifications. NTU lists interviews or selection tests for programmes such as Medicine and the Renaissance Engineering Programme, and for some others "on a selective basis". Its important dates page also lists interviews for PRC Gaokao, South Korean CSAT, Taiwan GSAT, Vietnam and Indonesia applicants.

For Medicine, NTU also needs UCAT results taken in the 12 months before admission.

How much does NTU cost?

NTU's latest published table is for students who accepted an offer in 2026 (AY2026/27). AY2027/28 fees are not yet on that page, so check the official tuition fees page before you budget.

Per year, most programmes (AY2026/27) Tuition fee
Singapore Citizen (with Tuition Grant) S$8,300
Singapore PR (with Tuition Grant) S$11,600
ASEAN international student (with Tuition Grant) S$18,050
Other international student (with Tuition Grant) S$21,400
No Tuition Grant, lab-based programme S$40,600
No Tuition Grant, non-lab programme S$36,350

Medicine costs more. For AY2026/27 it is S$36,100 a year for Citizens and S$91,250 for non-ASEAN international students with the grant. NTU says the annual fee is fixed at the 2026 rate for the length of the degree. International and non-subsidised amounts include 9% GST.

What is the MOE Tuition Grant bond?

The MOE Tuition Grant lowers your fees. Singapore Citizens get it automatically. PRs and international students must opt in on the application form and then sign a Tuition Grant Agreement. That agreement says you must work for a Singapore entity for three years after you graduate. You also need two sureties. If you miss the registration or signing deadlines, you pay the full non-subsidised fee.

What scholarships does NTU offer?

NTU lists many scholarships. Three well-known ones are:

  • Nanyang Global Scholarship: open to all nationalities. It covers subsidised tuition (after the Tuition Grant), plus a living allowance of S$6,500 a year and other allowances.
  • ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship: for citizens or PRs of ASEAN countries other than Singapore. It covers subsidised tuition (after the Tuition Grant), plus a S$5,800 yearly living allowance and a S$3,000 yearly accommodation allowance.
  • CN Yang Scholars Programme: an Honours College programme for top students in science, engineering and computing. Members get a guaranteed overseas final-year research project of 5 to 8 months.

Apply for admission first, then write a scholarship essay of up to 250 words. A school teacher must submit a referee appraisal within 7 days.

What should you do in Grade 9 and 10 to get into NTU?

Timeline from Grade 9 to an NTU offer in 2027 A simple timeline to an NTU offer. Grade 9 to 10: build strong maths and science foundations. What are the most common NTU application mistakes?

  • Applying in the wrong window. A-Level, polytechnic, IB and international windows are all different.
  • Missing a prerequisite. For example, choosing Engineering without H2 Maths, or with Applied Maths at Standard 12.
  • Missing the 3-day rule. Late results or documents can make your application incomplete.
  • Forgetting the IBO transcript. NTU will not process an IB application without direct access.
  • Using an old English test. IELTS and TOEFL scores older than two years are not accepted.
  • Ignoring the Tuition Grant step. If you miss the registration or signing deadline, you pay full fees.
  • Applying to one university only. Many students also apply to the National University of Singapore or overseas universities.

How 1-on-1 tutoring helps with getting into NTU

NTU's choices come down to your grades in maths and science, plus interviews for some programmes. Asymptode helps where those grades are won:

  • One dedicated mentor, live online 1-on-1. Your mentor follows your own syllabus and exam dates, whether that is H2 Maths, IB Maths AA, CBSE Class 12, Gaokao maths or AP Calculus BC.
  • Method first. The mentor watches each step of your working, so mistakes in algebra, calculus or physics are fixed at the source, not just at the answer.
  • Personalised homework with feedback. You get practice that targets your gaps, plus short parent updates, and every class is recorded so you can rewatch it.
  • Help with STEM thinking for interviews and planning. For non-maths parts like essays and timelines, your mentor helps with planning and method. Your mentor can also run practice talks on how you solve problems, which is useful for selective interviews. You can start with a free demo class.

Working with a mentor

How Asymptode can help you prepare

Asymptode teaches maths and science one-to-one, online, from Grade 1 through Grade 12 and for the SAT and AP. A mentor is matched to your child's school year and syllabus, and the class is built around what they get wrong — not around a fixed lesson plan.

  • One mentor, one student, live

Classes are taught one-to-one by a mentor who teaches this subject at your child's school year. They can stop the moment something does not land, and start again from where it broke.

  • The gap gets found, not taught over

Your child works problems in front of their mentor, so a wrong answer is traced back to the idea behind it instead of being marked and left. That is the part reading on your own cannot do.

  • Practice matched to that gap

Work set after a class is written for your child's year and syllabus, and their own mentor approves every sheet before your child sees it.

  • You can see what happened

After each class you can read what was taught, how your child got on, and what to practise next — in your own words, not a mark out of ten.

No score is promised here, and none should be: an exam result depends on the student. What a mentor changes is how quickly a misunderstanding is found and fixed.
