What is VITEEE 2027 and who conducts it?
Quick answer: VITEEE 2027 is the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination. Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) runs it for B.Tech admission to its four campuses: Vellore, Chennai, AP and Bhopal. It is a 2-hour computer-based test with 100 multiple-choice questions. Your VITEEE rank decides which campus and branch you can get in counselling.
VITEEE is compulsory for a VIT B.Tech seat. JEE Main and SAT scores are not used, and there is no management quota.
VIT Vellore and Chennai are Deemed to be Universities; VIT-AP and Bhopal are state private universities.
Planning other exams too? See our JEE Main 2027 guide and our BITSAT 2027 guide.
Which B.Tech programmes can I join through VITEEE?
Each campus has its own list, from Computer Science and its specialisations to Mechanical and Civil Engineering. Some run on one campus only, such as Aerospace Engineering at Bhopal. See the full list on the VITEEE portal.
You do not pick a campus or branch on the application form. You choose them later, in counselling, based on your rank.
What are the VITEEE 2027 important dates?
Most dates are marked "tentative", so check your email often.
VITEEE 2027 dates from VIT's official portal and prospectus.
Applications opened on 20 October 2026 and close on 31 March 2027. A mock test is planned for March 2027. Admit cards come out between 25 and 30 April 2027, and the exam runs from 27 April to 2 May 2027. Results are expected in the 2nd week of May 2027, when online counselling also starts.
Exact session timings are not yet announced.
Is there slot booking for VITEEE 2027?
Not in the old way. The 2027 prospectus says VIT allots your test city, centre, date and time based on the correspondence address you give. News reports say the old self-booking system has been dropped (secondary source). Older FAQ text still mentions slot booking, so follow the prospectus and VIT's emails. You cannot change your test city after you submit the form.
The VITEEE 2027 journey, step by step.
First, applications open on 20 October 2026. Next, the last date to apply is 31 March 2027. Then, admit cards are out from 25 to 30 April 2027, and the exam runs from 27 April to 2 May 2027. Finally, results and counselling start in the 2nd week of May 2027.
Who is eligible for VITEEE 2027?
Nationality: can NRI, OCI and foreign students apply?
- Resident Indians can apply.
- NRIs can apply for VITEEE. They can also apply through a separate NRI category form.
- OCI cardholders with a residential address in India can apply for VITEEE.
- Foreign passport holders (without OCI) are not eligible for VITEEE. They apply through VIT's international admissions route.
- PIO cards: the official pages do not mention them. Check the official page or write to VIT.
An Indian citizen who finished Class 12 abroad may choose "NRI" and take VITEEE, or apply under the NRI category.
Is there an age limit for VITEEE 2027?
No. VIT's FAQ says there is no specific age limit. The rule is on your Class 12 year instead.
Which Class 12 years and boards are accepted?
- You must have passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or be appearing in 2027. If you passed in 2024 or earlier, you are not eligible.
- You must study in regular, full-time, formal mode, with English as a subject.
- All required subjects must come from one board in one academic year. You cannot mix boards.
- Accepted boards include CBSE, CISCE, state boards, NIOS (with at least 5 subjects), GCE A Level, Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel, and the IB Diploma.
- Studied outside India? You need an equivalence certificate.
Your board exams still matter a lot. Our CBSE board exams 2027 guide covers those dates.
What Class 12 percentage do I need for VITEEE?
| You take | Class 12 marks needed | Branches open to you |
|---|---|---|
| MPCEA (Maths paper) | 60% in PCM, at least 50% in Maths | All B.Tech programmes |
| BPCEA (Biology paper) | 60% in PCB, at least 50% in Biology | Only six bio-linked programmes |
| SC/ST, J&K, Ladakh, North-East | 50% in PCM or PCB | As per paper taken |
Theory and practical marks both count. The six BPCEA programmes are Biotechnology (Vellore, Chennai, AP), CSE (Bioinformatics) and Health Sciences and Technology (Vellore), and Bioengineering, CSE (Health Informatics) and CSE (Education Technology) (Bhopal).
A trap from VIT's FAQ: 62% overall but 53.35% in PCM is not eligible. Only the PCM (or PCB) aggregate counts.
You can take VITEEE only once in 2027. Filling more than one form is treated as unfair practice.
What is the VITEEE 2027 exam pattern?
The pattern below is official. News reports say the old paper had 125 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes (secondary source).
The new VITEEE 2027 format: 100 questions, 2 hours, a timer for each section.
Maths (or Biology) has 40 questions and 50 minutes. Physics and Chemistry have 25 questions and 30 minutes each. English and Aptitude have 5 questions each, with 10 minutes together. In total, that is 100 questions in 2 hours.
| Feature | VITEEE 2027 |
|---|---|
| Mode | Computer-based test (CBT) |
| Questions | 100 MCQs, 4 options, one correct |
| Duration | 2 hours, no break |
| Marking | +4 correct, -1 wrong, 0 unanswered or marked for review |
| Maximum marks | 400 (100 x 4) |
| Language | English only |
| Extra time | 30 minutes for eligible PwD/PwBD candidates |
How is the VITEEE result calculated?
Different sessions get different papers, so VIT uses percentile-based normalisation. Your rank comes from your percentile. VIT does not share raw scores or re-total papers.
How much time do I get per question?
- Maths: 50 minutes / 40 questions = 75 seconds each.
- Physics and Chemistry: 30 minutes / 25 questions = 72 seconds each.
- English and Aptitude: 10 minutes / 10 questions = 60 seconds each.
Spare time in one section does not carry over to the next.

VIT does not publish cut-off ranks and warns against social media rank lists.
Does VIT offer scholarships for VITEEE rank holders?
Yes. VIT's official scholarships page lists the GV School Development Programme (GVSDP):
| VITEEE rank | Tuition fee waiver |
|---|---|
| 1 to 10 | 100% for all four years |
| 11 to 50 | 75% for all four years |
| 51 to 100 | 50% for all four years |
| 101 to 500 | 25% for all four years |
To keep it, you must keep meeting the rules in your award letter. The page is not dated for 2027, so confirm on the official scholarships page.
VIT's STARS scheme gives a 100% fee waiver to district toppers from rural government schools in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
How do NRI and foreign students get into VIT B.Tech?
NRI category. VIT treats you as an NRI if you are an Indian national and your father, mother, or real brother or sister lives and works abroad. This route has no entrance exam. Seats go on a first-come, first-served basis, and you pay an advance fee in USD. The NRI form costs USD 50 and the tentative last date is 31 August 2027. You need 60% in PCM with 50% in Maths, or 60% in PCB with 50% in Biology for bio programmes. Apply on the B.Tech NRI 2027 page.
NRIs can also take VITEEE and go through counselling.
Foreign nationals. Foreign passport holders apply through the international admissions page. The 2027 foreign session is not yet listed there.
How should I prepare for VITEEE 2027?
Start with the syllabus PDFs and your Class 11 and 12 books. Much of the syllabus is school-level content you also need for your boards. Our JEE Main vs JEE Advanced guide shows how these exams differ in depth.
A simple five-month plan (November 2026 to April 2027):
- November-December: fix weak Class 11 units, such as kinematics and trigonometry.
- January: cover Class 12 calculus, electrostatics and electrochemistry. Keep board revision going.
- February: practise timed 25-question and 40-question sets. Stick to 72-75 seconds per question.
- March: take the official mock test. Then do one full 2-hour paper each week.
- April: revise formulas and past mistakes only.
Do not ignore English and Aptitude: each question carries the same 4 marks.
Should I guess on VITEEE?
A right answer earns 4 and a wrong one costs 1. If you can rule out two options, your chance is 1 in 2, so a guess pays on average. Rule out options before you guess.
Worked example: a VITEEE-style maths question
Question: Find the minimum value of f(x) = x^3 - 3x + 2 on the interval [0, 2].
Finding a minimum on a closed interval in five quick steps.
Start with f(x) = x^3 - 3x + 2 on [0, 2]. Differentiate: f'(x) = 3x^2 - 3. Set 3x^2 - 3 = 0, so x = 1 (x = -1 is outside the interval). Check the end points and the critical point: f(0) = 2, f(1) = 0, f(2) = 4. The minimum value is 0, at x = 1.
The key habit: always check the end points too. It is easy to skip them and lose 5 marks (4 lost plus 1 taken away).
What are common VITEEE mistakes to avoid?
- Wrong address proof. It decides your test city. A bad proof can cancel your form.
- Wrong paper choice. Picking BPCEA shuts you out of most branches, and you cannot switch later.
- Checking only overall marks. VIT looks at your PCM or PCB aggregate.
- Filling two forms. This counts as malpractice.
- Ignoring section timers. Spare time does not carry over.
- Trusting fake agents. VIT says it has no agents and no management quota.
