BITSAT 2027 Guide: Dates, Exam Pattern, Eligibility, Fees and Admission

12 min read
Graduation cap illustration with the title BITSAT 2027 Guide for the BITS Pilani admission test

BITSAT 2027 is the online entrance test for BITS Pilani's campuses at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. The 2027 dates are not out yet, but BITS says the next admission cycle will open in December 2026 (tentatively). This guide covers the exam, the rules, admissions and a prep plan.

Key takeaways

  • BITSAT 2027 dates are not yet announced. BITS says the 2027-28 cycle should open in December 2026 (tentative).
  • In 2026 the test had two sessions: mid-April and late May. If you sit both, your higher score counts.
  • The paper has 130 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours. A right answer gives +3 and a wrong one costs -1.
  • To be admitted you need 75% aggregate in PCM (or PCB) in Class 12, and at least 60% in each of those subjects.
  • Admission is by BITSAT score only. BITS does not use JEE Main scores.

What is BITSAT 2027?

Quick answer: BITSAT 2027 is the BITS Admission Test that BITS Pilani will hold for entry to its B.E., M.Sc. and B.Pharm. programmes in 2027. It is a 3-hour computer-based test with Physics, Chemistry, English, Logical Reasoning and Maths (or Biology). Official dates for 2027 have not been announced yet.

BITS Pilani runs the test itself, not NTA. The old address bitsadmission.com now forwards to the official portal, admissions.bits-pilani.ac.in. BITS warns that this is the only official admissions website, and that no agent can offer "direct admission".

Which campuses and programmes does BITSAT cover?

BITSAT is used for the Integrated First Degree (FD) programmes at three Indian campuses:

  • Pilani (Rajasthan): B.E. (including Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Mathematics and Computing), B.Pharm. and M.Sc.
  • K K Birla Goa: B.E. (including Computer Science and Electronics and Computer Engg.) and M.Sc. No B.Pharm.
  • Hyderabad: B.E., B.Pharm. and M.Sc., with a list close to Pilani's.

The M.Sc. options are Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, and Semiconductor and Nanoscience. M.Sc. students can compete for a second degree in engineering after Year 1. Your BITSAT score also lets you apply for BITS "2+2" programmes with partner universities in Australia, the USA and France. The BITSAT 2026 brochure gives the full list.

Note: the Dubai campus of BITS does not need BITSAT for admission. It is only a test centre.

When is BITSAT 2027? Are the dates out?

No. As of 28 October 2026, BITS has not published BITSAT 2027 dates. The First Degree admissions page says the 2027-28 admission cycle "will open in December 2026 (tentatively)".

Here are the BITSAT 2026 dates from the official BITSAT 2026 page, as a guide only.

Timeline of BITSAT 2026 key dates from application opening to the 2027 cycle BITSAT 2026 dates, shown as a guide for the 2027 cycle.

Event (2026 cycle) Date
Applications open 15 December 2025
Last date to apply (Session 1 or both) 19 March 2026, 5:00 PM
Edit window 21-22 March 2026
Session 1 exam 15-16 April 2026
Session 2 registration 20 April - 5 May 2026
Session 2 exam 24-26 May 2026
Admission iterations June to August 2026
2027-28 cycle opens December 2026 (tentative)

The 2026 brochure listed Session 2 as 25-27 May, so dates can shift. The usual pattern: apply December to March, Session 1 in April, Session 2 in May, admission rounds June to August.

How do the two sessions work?

You can sit BITSAT up to twice a year. Choose "Session 1" or "Both" when you apply, or add Session 2 later for an extra fee. If you sit both, BITS uses your higher score. You also pick your own test date and slot. Each day has two slots: 9 AM to 12 noon and 2 PM to 5 PM.

Who is eligible for BITSAT 2027?

BITS has not released the 2027 rules yet. Here are the BITSAT 2026 eligibility rules, which are a good guide:

  1. Board: You must pass Class 12 (10+2) from a recognised Central or State board, or an equivalent.
  2. Subjects: At least five subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Maths, one language, and one more subject.
  3. Marks (PCM): An aggregate of 75% in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, and at least 60% in each. Theory and practical marks both count.
  4. Marks (PCB): For B.Pharm., B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engg. and M.Sc. Biological Sciences, the same 75% and 60% rule applies to Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Maths).
  5. Year of passing: For BITSAT 2026, only students passing Class 12 in 2026 or 2025 could apply. Those who passed in 2024 or earlier could not. Confirm the 2027 years in the new brochure.
  6. CAIE and IB: Cambridge students need the subjects at A Level. IB students need them at Higher Level.

Is there direct admission for board toppers?

Yes. Students who rank first in their State or Central board get direct admission to a programme of their choice, whatever their BITSAT score. A PCM topper can choose any FD programme. A PCB topper can choose only B.Pharm. or B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engg.

Can NRI and foreign students take BITSAT?

There are two routes:

  • NRIs with Indian passports: BITS says there is no separate NRI process. You apply through BITSAT like everyone else. If your school board is foreign, you will need an equivalence certificate from AIU later (BITSAT FAQs).
  • Non-Indian passport holders: You can use the International Student Admission (ISA) scheme, which uses SAT scores, not BITSAT. OCI card holders may use either route.

Table of BITSAT 2026 eligibility rules and application fees BITSAT 2026 eligibility and application fees (2027 figures not yet out).

In short: you need 75% aggregate and 60% in each of P, C, M (or P, C, B). In 2026 only students passing Class 12 in 2026 or 2025 could sit. The fee for one session was Rs 3,600 (male) or Rs 3,100 (female or transgender). For both sessions it was Rs 5,600 or Rs 4,600. At Dubai it was Rs 7,250 for one session or Rs 9,250 for both. Adding Session 2 later cost Rs 2,000 (male) or Rs 1,500 (female or transgender), and Rs 2,000 for Dubai candidates.

What is the BITSAT exam pattern?

Here is the BITSAT 2026 pattern from the official brochure:

How do BITSAT scores lead to admission?

Your BITSAT score alone decides your merit position. Class 12 marks only decide if you are eligible. Here is the 2026 process from the Admission Modality document:

Flow chart of the BITS admission process from applying to iterations How a BITSAT score turns into a seat.

  1. Apply for BITSAT and pay the fee.
  2. Take the test once or twice. Your higher score counts.
  3. Fill the admission form. This is a separate form. In 2026 it ran from late April to 1 June. You enter your Class 12 marks and rank your programme and campus choices in order.
  4. Merit list. BITS ranks eligible students by BITSAT score. Ties are broken by the Maths (or Biology) score, then Physics, then Chemistry.
  5. Iterations. A computer goes down the merit list. It gives each student their highest available choice. Others go on a waitlist.
  6. Accept and pay. You pay fees by the deadline to stay in the race. In later rounds you may "slide up" to a higher choice. You can also choose to "freeze" your seat or campus.

In 2026, BITS published results up to Iteration 9, and the cycle closed on 1 September 2026. You cannot change the order of choices once you submit it, so think carefully. BITS publishes past cut-off scores on its admissions site.

How do you apply for BITSAT? Step by step

  1. Go to admissions.bits-pilani.ac.in when the 2027 window opens.
  2. Register online and verify your email ID.
  3. Fill the form. Make sure your details match your Aadhaar card, as you must bring it to the centre.
  4. Choose Session 1 or Both, and give your test city choices. In 2026 you gave three city choices in India.
  5. Upload documents and pay the non-refundable fee.
  6. Fix errors in the edit window. Gender, email, phone and test city cannot change.
  7. Book your test date and slot, download your hall ticket, and take the test.
  8. Fill the separate admission form with Class 12 marks and choices.

Where are the test centres? Are there centres abroad?

In 2026 the tentative list had about 70 centres, almost all in India. Abroad, the list included Dubai (BITS Dubai campus), Kuwait and Kathmandu, Nepal. If you choose Dubai or Kuwait, you get no other centre option.

Worked example: a BITSAT-style maths question

Question: Find the coefficient of x³ in (1 + 2x)⁵.

Steps to find the coefficient of x cubed in (1 + 2x) to the power 5 Binomial theorem, solved step by step.

  1. Write the general term: T = C(5, r) Ɨ (2x)^r.
  2. We want x³, so set r = 3.
  3. Work out C(5, 3) = 10.
  4. Work out 2³ = 8.
  5. Multiply: 10 Ɨ 8 = 80.

Now the score maths. Say you attempt 115 questions. You get 100 right and 15 wrong, and skip 15. Your score is (100 Ɨ 3) āˆ’ (15 Ɨ 1) = 300 āˆ’ 15 = 285 out of 390. What if you blindly guessed the 15 skipped questions? On average you get 1 in 4 right, so each guess is worth (1/4 Ɨ 3) āˆ’ (3/4 Ɨ 1) = 0 marks. Blind guessing gains nothing on average. Guess only when you can rule out at least one option.

What are the most common BITSAT mistakes?

  • Wild guessing. The -1 penalty adds up fast.
  • Opening bonus questions too early. You lose the chance to review your 130 answers.
  • Forgetting the admission form. Taking BITSAT is not enough. You must also submit marks and choices.
  • Ignoring the 75% rule. A great score is useless if your PCM aggregate falls below 75%.
  • Skipping English and reasoning. They are 30 questions, which is 90 marks.
  • Mismatched details. Your form must match your Aadhaar card.
  • Trusting agents. BITS says no one can sell or promise a seat.

Working with a mentor

How Asymptode can help you prepare

Asymptode teaches maths and science one-to-one, online, from Grade 1 through Grade 12 and for the SAT and AP. A mentor is matched to your child's school year and syllabus, and the class is built around what they get wrong — not around a fixed lesson plan.

  • One mentor, one student, live

Classes are taught one-to-one by a mentor who teaches this subject at your child's school year. They can stop the moment something does not land, and start again from where it broke.

  • The gap gets found, not taught over

Your child works problems in front of their mentor, so a wrong answer is traced back to the idea behind it instead of being marked and left. That is the part reading on your own cannot do.

  • Practice matched to that gap

Work set after a class is written for your child's year and syllabus, and their own mentor approves every sheet before your child sees it.

  • You can see what happened

After each class you can read what was taught, how your child got on, and what to practise next — in your own words, not a mark out of ten.

No score is promised here, and none should be: an exam result depends on the student. What a mentor changes is how quickly a misunderstanding is found and fixed.
