The AP exam dates 2027 are set: the main exams run over two weeks, May 3-7 and May 10-14, 2027, with late testing on May 17-21. This guide gives students and parents, in the US and worldwide, the full schedule, 2026-27 deadlines, fees, clash rules and an 8-week study plan.

Key takeaways

  • Fees are $99 per exam in the US, US territories, Canada and DoWEA schools, and $129 elsewhere. Eligible students get a $37 fee reduction.
  • Two exams at the same time? Ask your coordinator for late testing. Scores come out in July 2027.

Where are the maths and science exams?

Note one clash for physics students: Physics 1 and Physics C: E&M are both on Wednesday May 5 in Session 2. If you take both, you need late testing for one.

What time do AP exams start in 2027?

This is new for 2027. College Board changed start times in some places so secure exam content does not leak across time zones. Details are on the 2027 AP Exam Start Times page.

  • Lower 48 US states, Hawaii and Washington, D.C.: 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. local time. No change.
  • Alaska: 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. local time.
  • Outside the US: start times depend on your UTC offset in May.
  • An exam can still begin up to 1 hour after the official start time.

Here are some of the official start times by May UTC offset:

UTC offset in May Session 1 (local) Session 2 (local)
+00:00 7:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m.
+01:00 8:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m.
+04:00 11:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m.
+05:30 6:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m.
+08:00 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m.

For example, UK schools (UTC+01:00 in May) would start at 8 a.m.; India (UTC+05:30) at 6:30 a.m. Confirm your school with the official start time lookup tool. You can search by school name or school code.

What are the AP late testing 2027 dates?

Late testing runs Monday May 17 to Friday May 21, 2027. It uses alternate versions of the exams. If you test late, you must sit the exam on its set late date and session. The official late-testing page lists:

Day Session 1 Session 2
Mon, May 17 English Literature; European History; Networking (pilot) Business with Personal Finance; French; Human Geography
Tue, May 18 Art History; Italian; Seminar; US Government and Politics Cybersecurity; Japanese; US History; World History: Modern
Wed, May 19 African American Studies; Biology; Microeconomics; Music Theory; Physics 1 Spanish Language; Spanish Literature
Thu, May 20 Chemistry; Computer Science A; Environmental Science; Latin; Physics C: E&M; Precalculus Calculus AB; Calculus BC; Comparative Government; German; Physics C: Mechanics
Fri, May 21 Chinese; English Language; Macroeconomics; Psychology; Statistics Computer Science Principles; Physics 2

Your coordinator orders late exams. Deadlines: May 4, 2027 for schools outside the US (including US territories and Canada), and May 14, 2027 for US schools.

What if two of my AP exams are at the same time?

If two of your exams fall on the same day in the same session, you take one on time and the other in late testing. "2 or more AP Exams on the same date at the same time" is on College Board's list of reasons with no extra late-testing fee. See the late-testing policies.

Steps showing what to do when two AP exams clash and how late testing works in 2027 What to do when two AP exams clash. Check both exams on the official schedule. If they share the same day and session, that is a clash. Tell your AP coordinator early. The coordinator orders a late-testing exam for one subject. A clash is a no-fee reason, so there is no extra late-testing fee. You then sit the alternate exam during May 17-21.

Other no-fee reasons include a clash with an IB or Cambridge exam, a mandated state or national test, a religious observance, and serious illness or injury. "Reason Not Listed" adds a $40 late-testing fee.

Tip: check the late schedule before choosing which exam to move. For example, Physics 1 moves to Wednesday May 19 (Session 1), and Physics C: E&M moves to Thursday May 20 (Session 1).

Are AP exams digital or paper in 2027?

Starting in 2027, all AP Exams are digital. Most run in the Bluebook app, in one of two modes. See How Are AP Exams Administered?

  • Hybrid digital: you answer multiple-choice in Bluebook, then handwrite free-response answers in a paper booklet. This covers Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Music Theory (new for 2027), Physics 1, Physics 2, Physics C: E&M, Physics C: Mechanics and Precalculus.
  • Fully digital: everything is in Bluebook. This includes Statistics (new for 2027), Computer Science A, Environmental Science, English, history, Psychology and world language exams.
  • Portfolio only: AP Art and Design is submitted through the AP Digital Portfolio. AP Research has no end-of-course exam.

Students with approved accommodations may get paper versions. Practise with a free Bluebook test preview; some, like Statistics, arrive in January 2027.

How do I register for AP exams 2027?

You register through a school. Parents and students cannot order AP Exams directly.

  1. At your own school: join your AP class section in My AP using the join code from your teacher or coordinator. Then confirm with your coordinator that you want to take the exam.
  2. Check the school deadline. The College Board final deadline is November 13, 2026, but your school may set an earlier one.
  3. Pay your school when it asks.
  4. Homeschool, independent or virtual students: use the AP Course Ledger to find nearby schools. Contact each school's AP coordinator as early as you can.
  5. If a school agrees, the coordinator makes an exam-only section and gives you a join code. You join it in My AP.

Host schools may set their own deadlines and charge more to cover proctoring. After November 13, a coordinator can still add you and ask AP Services by March 12 to waive the late fee. Full details are on the official page for homeschool and other students.

Can I take AP exams outside the US?

Yes. AP Exams are given at schools and College Board-authorized test centres around the world. The fee is usually $129 per exam, start times follow the UTC-offset table, and the late-testing order deadline is earlier (May 4, 2027). Deadlines are in US Eastern Time (ET), so convert them. A clash with an IB or Cambridge exam is a no-fee reason for late testing. UK-system students can compare with our A Level exam dates 2027 guide.

When are AP scores released in 2027?

AP scores are released in July 2027. College Board has not yet published an exact day. Before then, choose your free score send by June 20, 2027.

What is a good 8-week study plan before AP exams?

The 8 weeks before May 3 start in early March. Adjust this plan to your own exam days.

Week Focus
Week 1 (early March) List exams and sessions, spot clashes, find weak units with a timed section
Week 2 Rebuild the weakest unit; make a one-page formula sheet
Week 3 Past free-response questions, marked with official scoring guidelines
Week 4 Second-weakest units; try the Bluebook test preview
Week 5 First full timed practice exam; review every mistake
Week 6 Fix error patterns; mixed-topic question sets
Week 7 Second timed practice exam in the real mode (hybrid: handwrite free-response)
Week 8 Light review, sleep and logistics; earliest exam first

In maths and science, show full working on every free-response answer.

What are common AP exam mistakes to avoid?

  • Assuming 8 a.m. everywhere. Start times changed for 2027 outside the lower 48, Hawaii and D.C. Check the lookup tool.
  • Missing the school deadline. Many schools close sign-ups before November 13. Late orders cost $40 more per exam.
  • Ignoring clashes. Tell your coordinator early.
  • Forgetting portfolio deadlines. Seminar, Research, CSP and world language deadlines are April 30, 2027. Art and Design is May 7.
  • Skipping Bluebook practice. Try the test preview first.

Working with a mentor

How Asymptode can help you prepare

Asymptode teaches maths and science one-to-one, online, from Grade 1 through Grade 12 and for the SAT and AP. A mentor is matched to your child's school year and syllabus, and the class is built around what they get wrong — not around a fixed lesson plan.

  • One mentor, one student, live

Classes are taught one-to-one by a mentor who teaches this subject at your child's school year. They can stop the moment something does not land, and start again from where it broke.

  • The gap gets found, not taught over

Your child works problems in front of their mentor, so a wrong answer is traced back to the idea behind it instead of being marked and left. That is the part reading on your own cannot do.

  • Practice matched to that gap

Work set after a class is written for your child's year and syllabus, and their own mentor approves every sheet before your child sees it.

  • You can see what happened

After each class you can read what was taught, how your child got on, and what to practise next — in your own words, not a mark out of ten.

No score is promised here, and none should be: an exam result depends on the student. What a mentor changes is how quickly a misunderstanding is found and fixed.
