If you want to know how to get into University of Toronto for September 2027, focus on three things: the right Grade 12 courses, an on-time OUAC application, and any supplemental application your program needs. Every fact here comes from official U of T, OUAC or Government of Canada pages.
Key takeaways
- Every U of T application starts on OUAC: 101 for current Ontario high-school day students, 105 for everyone else.
- Apply by November 7, 2026 for the earliest rounds. The final deadline for most programs is January 15, 2027.
- Engineering, Rotman Commerce, Computer Science and several other programs have their own supplemental applications.
- Calculus programs need real calculus: MCV4U, CBSE Standard Maths (not Applied), IB Math AA or AI HL, AP Calculus, or A-Level Maths.
- If English is not your first language, you usually need a test such as IELTS 6.5. Students from India are not exempt.
How to get into University of Toronto: what are the main steps?
Quick answer: Pick up to three U of T program areas or campuses. Apply through OUAC (101 or 105) by November 7, 2026 if you can, and by January 15, 2027 at the latest. Then use the Join U of T portal to send documents, finish any supplemental application, meet the English test rule and complete the Awards Profile.
- Choose up to three program areas or campuses and check their prerequisites.
- Apply on OUAC. The first form only asks for basic details and program choices. No transcripts yet.
- Log in to your portal. About a week later you get login steps for Join U of T (or the Engineering Applicant Portal). Upload documents and supplementals there.
- Send English test scores if needed, straight from the testing agency.
- Complete the Awards Profile by February 1, 2027, and apply for residence by March 31, 2027.
The U of T application path, step by step.
The flow starts with OUAC 101 or 105. Next comes the Join U of T portal. Then you complete supplementals such as the ESA, Rotman or Computer Science forms. After that you send English test results like IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo, and finally receive your U of T offer for 2027.
Which U of T campus should you pick?
U of T has three campuses. Each is its own program area, so you can apply to all three.
| Campus | Where | Size |
|---|---|---|
| St. George | Downtown Toronto | 400+ program options, 48,000+ undergraduates. Home to Engineering, Architecture, Arts & Science, Kinesiology and Music |
| Mississauga (UTM) | About 27 km west | 180+ program options, 15,000+ undergraduates |
| Scarborough (UTSC) | About 22 km east | 250+ program options, 15,000+ undergraduates, 50+ co-op programs |
See the U of T three campuses page. UTM + UTSC + Engineering is allowed; two Arts & Science St. George program areas are not.
OUAC 101 or 105: which application do you use?
Use OUAC 101 only if all of these are true: you take day courses at an Ontario high school, you have never been out of school for more than 7 months in a row, you will have six 4U/M courses this year, you have no post-secondary study, you are applying to first year, and you are under 21. Everyone else uses OUAC 105, including Canadians outside Ontario and international students. Full rules are on the OUAC application page.
How much does it cost to apply to U of T?
These are fees as listed on OUAC at time of writing. Check the OUAC 101 fees or OUAC 105 fees page before you pay.
- Base fee: $156 CAD, covering your first three choices.
- Extra choices: $50 each.
- 105 only: a $10 international service fee if you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Program fees: some programs, such as Engineering, Rotman Commerce and Computer Science, add a non-refundable fee. The 101 and 105 pages list different amounts, so check yours.
What are the University of Toronto deadlines for Fall 2027?

What do the U of T supplemental applications involve?
What is the Engineering Supplemental Application (ESA)?
The ESA asks you to rank 2 to 4 engineering programs and list your timeline, test scores and activities. Its Personal Profile has a 300-word timed written answer, a 2-minute video and a 3-minute video.
Engineering recommends finishing the ESA and documents by December 1. Non-Ontario applicants who do this (including the English requirement) "will be guaranteed a response by April 30". Anything sent after January 15 "will not be considered until the May round". See the Engineering deadlines page and our guide on how to become an engineer.
What does the Rotman Commerce supplemental ask?
The Rotman Commerce application has a timed written answer and three 90-second videos, then two follow-up questions. Rotman reviews it "alongside a student's academic record as part of a holistic admissions process".
How does Computer Science admission work at St. George?
You join the Faculty of Arts & Science in the CS admission category, then apply to a program at the end of first year. Students in this category have "guaranteed admission to Computer Science programs at the end of first year, provided they meet certain minimum requirements". See the U of T Computer Science admissions page. CS in Arts & Science cannot be deferred.
What are the U of T admission requirements by curriculum?
These rules come from U of T's international high-school requirements, its Canadian high-school requirements and the 2027-28 bulletins.
What U of T asks for, by curriculum.
Ontario students need the OSSD plus six Grade 12 U/M courses, including ENG4U. Students in India need CBSE or CISCE Class XII. US students need a high-school diploma; SAT or ACT is optional but expected for Engineering. UK students need five GCSEs and three A Levels, IB students need the full Diploma, and the English test minimum shown is IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0.
Ontario and the rest of Canada
You need an OSSD and six Grade 12 U/M courses, including ENG4U or EAE4U. Conditional offers use Grade 11 and 12 marks. Other provinces differ: for example, Quebec's DES alone is not enough, but CEGEP Year 1 is accepted.
India (CBSE and CISCE)
U of T accepts CBSE and CISCE Class XII. State boards "with excellent results" are considered one by one. For programs that need Calculus (business, engineering, science), CBSE students "must present Class XII Standard Mathematics". Applied Mathematics does not meet the Calculus requirement. U of T does not publish a minimum percentage for India.
United States
You need an accredited high-school diploma. Most maths, science, computer science and commerce programs need Calculus, AP Calculus (AB or BC) or a semester of college calculus. Precalculus cannot be used. See our AP Calculus AB vs BC prep guide.
U of T is test optional, but Engineering expects competitive candidates to present SAT or ACT scores and to disclose all scores. Use SAT/AP code 0982 or ACT code 5366. Compare the tests in SAT vs ACT.
UK A-Levels and IB
A-Levels: five GCSE-level subjects plus three A Levels, with English, and Maths at AS or A Level for Calculus programs. Engineering needs "three A Levels including Mathematics and Physics".
IB: the IB Diploma with English HL or SL. Math AA SL, AA HL or AI HL covers Calculus. AI SL covers Advanced Functions only. Engineering needs the full Diploma with Physics and Chemistry. Our guide to IB Maths AA vs AI explains the choice.

What English test score do you need for U of T?
You need a test if your first language is not English. You may be exempt after 4+ years of full-time study in Canada, or at an English-language school in a listed country such as the US, UK or Australia. India is not on the list. Minimums from the U of T English language requirements page:
| Test | Minimum |
|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0, one test date |
| TOEFL iBT (new 1-6 scale) | 4.5 overall, 4.5 Writing, 4.0 Speaking |
| TOEFL iBT (before Jan 21, 2026) | 89 overall, 22 Speaking, 22 Writing |
| Duolingo English Test | 120 overall, 120 Production |
| PTE Academic | 65 overall, no part below 60 |
| Cambridge C1/C2 | 180 overall, 170 in each part |

Can you still get the Lester B. Pearson Scholarship?
The Pearson International Scholarship covers "tuition, books, incidental fees, and full residence support for four years" for approximately 37 scholars each year. It is for international students in their final year of high school, and your school must nominate you (one student per school per year).
For Fall 2027, nominations (October 9, 2026) and the Pearson OUAC deadline (October 16, 2026) have passed. If you were not nominated, plan for next year: Grade 11 students should talk to their counsellor before July. Generative AI is not allowed in award applications, and U of T does not work with agents for Pearson.
Do international students need a study permit?
Generally, yes. You may also need a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), which U of T issues after you accept and pay the deposit. Undergraduates are not exempt, says IRCC's PAL page.
What is the best Grade 9-12 plan for U of T?
- Grade 9-10: Keep maths, science and English strong, on a track that leads to Grade 12 calculus (see our Ontario Grade 9 math guide). Build one or two activities.
- Grade 11: Treat it as an admission year. Plan your English test, and the SAT or ACT for Engineering.
- Grade 12, Sept to Nov 7: Confirm prerequisites and submit OUAC.
- Grade 12, Nov to Feb: Finish supplementals, send documents and complete the Awards Profile.
- Grade 12, Jan to May: Decisions arrive in rounds. International students pay the deposit, get the PAL and apply for a study permit.
- May to Aug: Meet your offer conditions with final grades.
Why does U of T reject applicants?
U of T lists these common reasons on its admission decisions page:
- Average or prerequisite grades not competitive.
- No Grade 12 English.
- A missing Grade 12 prerequisite.
- Too many repeated courses.
- English test requirement not met by the deadline.
- Supplementary application missing or not competitive.
Also, use a personal email, not a school one that may expire.
What does Grade 12 calculus for U of T look like?
Here is a typical MCV4U-style question: let f(x) = x³ − 6x² + 9x + 1. Find the local maximum, local minimum and inflection point.
Worked example: turning points of a cubic.
First, f'(x) = 3x² − 12x + 9 = 3(x − 1)(x − 3), so f'(x) = 0 at x = 1 and x = 3. f(1) = 5 gives a local maximum at (1, 5). f(3) = 1 gives a local minimum at (3, 1). f''(x) = 6x − 12 = 0 at x = 2, so the inflection point is (2, 3).
Check: f''(1) = −6 is negative, so (1, 5) is a maximum. f''(3) = 6 is positive, so (3, 1) is a minimum.
