If you want to know how to get into AIIMS for MBBS, the short path is this: pass Class 12 with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, score well in NEET-UG, and win a seat through MCC counselling. There is no separate AIIMS MBBS exam any more. This guide uses official NTA, MCC and NMC documents, and is written for students in Class 9 to 12, NRI and OCI families, and parents.
Key takeaways
- AIIMS MBBS admission has been through NEET-UG since 2020. The old AIIMS entrance exam is gone.
- AIIMS asks for at least 60% in English + PCB in Class 12 for General and OBC students (50% SC/ST, 45% PwBD).
- MCC counsels 100% of AIIMS MBBS seats, with no domicile rule.
- NEET-UG has 180 questions for 720 marks, with +4 for a right answer and -1 for a wrong one.
- NEET-UG 2027 dates are not announced yet. Watch neet.nta.nic.in.
How to get into AIIMS: what is the full process?
Quick answer: To get into AIIMS for MBBS, you must be at least 17 by 31 December of the exam year, pass Class 12 with English and PCB (60% aggregate for General/OBC), qualify NEET-UG, then register with MCC. MCC allots all AIIMS seats by NEET rank and your choices, over several rounds. You then report to the AIIMS with your documents.
The six checkpoints on the path to an AIIMS MBBS seat.
The table shows the path to an AIIMS MBBS seat. Class 12 subjects: English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. AIIMS marks bar: 60% for General/OBC, 50% for SC/ST, 45% for PwBD. Age: 17 by 31 December of the exam year. Exam: NEET-UG, 180 questions, 720 marks. Qualify: 50th percentile for UR, 40th for SC/ST/OBC. Counselling: MCC handles 100% of AIIMS seats in 4 rounds.

Is there a separate AIIMS entrance exam for MBBS?
No. NEET (UG) has been the qualifying exam for MBBS at AIIMS and JIPMER since 2020, under Section 14(1) of the NMC Act 2019. This is stated in the NEET (UG) 2026 Information Bulletin. AIIMS is still run under its own statute, but its MBBS seats now come through NEET.
So the last separate AIIMS MBBS exam was the 2019 one (our reading of the "since 2020" wording). The NMC GMER-2023 regulations add that nobody can study graduate medicine "either in India or elsewhere (if they want to return and practice in India)" without the minimum NEET-UG score. They also require common counselling based on the NEET-UG merit list.
What is the AIIMS eligibility for MBBS?
You must meet the NEET-UG rules and the extra AIIMS rule.
NEET-UG eligibility (2026 cycle)
- Age: at least 17 on or before 31 December of the exam year, for all categories. For 2026, that meant born on or before 31.12.2009.
- Upper age limit: none (NMC letter dated 09.03.2022).
- Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English in Class 12.
- Class 12 students: you can sit NEET, but must pass Class 12 before Round 1 of counselling.
- Qualifying percentile: 50th (General/UR), 40th (SC/ST/OBC), 45th (UR/EWS-PwBD), 40th (SC/ST/OBC-PwBD).
If the 2027 rule matches 2026, you would need to be born on or before 31.12.2010. That is our own calculation, not an official notice.
What is the AIIMS 60 percent rule?
AIIMS sets a stricter Class 12 rule than other colleges. You need at least 60% aggregate in English + Physics + Chemistry + Biology if you are General or OBC, 50% if SC/ST, and 45% if PwBD.
This comes from AIIMS New Delhi's letter dated 22.07.2026, in Annexure-8 of the MCC UG Counselling 2026 bulletin. So a good NEET rank alone is not enough. Your board marks count too.
What is the NEET-UG exam pattern?
NEET-UG is a pen-and-paper test: 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions in 3 hours.
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Physics | 45 | 180 |
| Chemistry | 45 | 180 |
| Biology (Botany + Zoology) | 90 | 360 |
| Total | 180 | 720 |
- Marking: +4 for a correct answer, -1 for a wrong answer, 0 if left blank.
- Languages: 13 (English, Hindi and 11 regional languages).
- Tie-break (2026 bulletin): Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics.
Physics needs speed and clean working. Our guide to Newton's three laws is a good place to start.
What happened in NEET-UG 2026, and when is NEET 2027?
The 2026 cycle was unusual:
| Event | Date (2026) |
|---|---|
| First exam | 3 May, 2:00 to 5:00 PM |
| First exam cancelled by NTA | 12 May |
| Re-exam | 21 June (Sunday) |
| Answer key challenge window | 25 to 28 June |
| Result and final answer key | 16 July |
NTA's cancellation notice says the matter went to the CBI, no fresh registration was needed, and fees are being refunded. The result press release says about 20 lakh appeared and 11.21 lakh qualified. The top score was 715/720, and only 19 candidates scored above 700.
NEET-UG 2027: as of 31 October 2026, there is no notice or bulletin on neet.nta.nic.in. Dates are not yet announced. Our NEET-UG 2027 guide will track them.
How does AIIMS counselling by MCC work?
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), under DGHS and the Ministry of Health, counsels for 100% of AIIMS MBBS seats. It allots seats by merit and choice, with no domicile rule.
From NEET-UG rank to reporting at an AIIMS, in four steps.
The animation shows four boxes. First, sit NEET-UG and get an All India Rank. Second, register at mcc.nic.in and pay the fee and deposit. Third, fill your AIIMS choices and take part in Rounds 1, 2, 3 and the stray round. Fourth, report to the allotted AIIMS with your original documents.
What were the AIIMS counselling dates in 2026?
| Round | Registration | Result | Reporting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 5 to 15 Aug (choice filling 6 to 18 Aug) | 21 Aug | 22 to 31 Aug |
| Round 2 | 3 to 8 Sep | 11 Sep | 12 to 18 Sep |
| Round 3 | 22 to 27 Sep | 30 Sep | 1 to 9 Oct |
| Stray Vacancy | extended to 16 Oct | 19 Oct | 19 to 26 Oct |
Sources: Round 1, Rounds 2 and 3 and stray round.
A Special Stray Vacancy Round for MBBS (notice dated 30.10.2026) has registration on 2 to 4 November, result on 7 November and reporting on 7 to 16 November 2026.
What does MCC counselling cost, and what are the exit rules?
MCC fees, deposit, exit rules and reservation for AIIMS seats.
The table shows MCC rules for AIIMS seats. Registration fee: Rs 1,000 for UR/EWS and Rs 500 for others. Security deposit: Rs 10,000 or Rs 5,000, refundable. Round 1 has free exit. From Round 2, you lose the deposit if you leave. Reservation: SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC 27%, EWS 10%.
A few more points from the MCC bulletin:
- The registration fee is non-refundable. In total you pay Rs 11,000 (UR) or Rs 5,500 (SC/ST/OBC/PwD).
- If you also opt for deemed universities, you pay only their higher fee (Rs 5,000 + Rs 2,00,000).
- A Round 3 seat cannot be resigned and blocks further rounds.
- OBC means OBC-NCL. PwD gets 5% (horizontal), and there are Foreign National seats.
What do freeze and float mean?
Freeze means you accept the seat and report in person. Float means you keep the seat but try for an upgrade in the next round (MCC guidance).
What is the AIIMS NEET cut off?
There is no single AIIMS cut off. Closing ranks vary by AIIMS, category and round. Check the official allotment PDFs on the MCC current events page.
One verified example: in the official Round 3 result PDF, NEET ranks 1 to 11 and 13 to 16 hold AIIMS New Delhi MBBS seats from Round 1. Rank 12 took JIPMER Puducherry.

Can NRI and OCI students get into AIIMS?
Yes, NRIs, OCI holders and foreign nationals may sit NEET-UG. Admission depends on state, institution and Government of India rules.
- OCI holders: under the Supreme Court order of 03.02.2023 (WP 891/2021), they get back the rights they had before the 04.03.2021 notification. MCC treats them on par with Indian citizens, eligible for UR (General) and NRI seats.
- Foreign National seats at AIIMS: open only to OCI, PIO and foreign national candidates. AIIMS sets the fee for these seats. If they are still empty in Round 3, they convert to UR.
- NRI quota: the MCC bulletin does not mention an NRI quota for AIIMS. Its NRI quota material covers deemed universities.

How many AIIMS are there? (List of AIIMS)
The MoHFW Year End Review of January 2025 says 22 new AIIMS were approved under PMSSY. Of these, 18 are functional and 4 are at various stages. Add the original AIIMS New Delhi and that makes 23 (our count, not stated in the document).
These AIIMS appear in the official MCC 2026 Round 3 allotment PDF:
| Group | AIIMS |
|---|---|
| Original | New Delhi |
| Phase I (2012) | Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh |
| Others | Raebareli, Gorakhpur, Nagpur, Kalyani, Mangalagiri, Bibinagar, Bathinda, Deoghar, Bilaspur, Guwahati, Jammu (Vijaypur), Rajkot, Madurai, Rewari |
AIIMS Darbhanga and Awantipora were not in that PDF. "AIIMS-CAPFIMS, Asola, Delhi" also appears as an MCC option.
Seats per AIIMS: seat numbers change each year, so check the latest seat matrix on the MCC website. For scale, India had 1,18,137 MBBS seats in 780 colleges (MoHFW, January 2025).
What does MBBS at AIIMS cost, and how long is it?
Tuition: we could not verify the official AIIMS MBBS fee. Check the AIIMS prospectus on aiimsexams.ac.in.
Course length: MBBS is not complete until you finish the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship, which lasts at least twelve months. GMER-2023 also says you must finish the course within 9 years of admission, with at most 4 attempts at First Professional MBBS.
How do I get into AIIMS for B.Sc Nursing?
MCC counsels for "100% B.Sc (Nursing) of selected Central B.Sc. Nursing Institutes" using NEET-UG. This is separate from AIIMS's own nursing exam. For AIIMS's own B.Sc (Hons) Nursing and paramedical exams, check the notices on aiimsexams.ac.in.
How should I prepare for AIIMS from Class 9 to 12?
Start early, but keep it simple. The NEET syllabus covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology). NTA hosts the syllabus PDF; the bulletin says it is unchanged.
| Class | Focus |
|---|---|
| Class 9-10 | Strong basics in science and maths. Build reading speed and clean working. |
| Class 11 | Choose PCB with English. Read the NCERT books closely. Learn core topics like the mole concept and projectile motion. |
| Class 12 | Finish the syllabus. Take timed mock tests. Aim for at least 60% in English + PCB. Do not neglect CBSE board exams. |
NCERT books are widely recommended as the core of NEET prep, though that is common advice, not an official NTA rule. Also, NTA says over 93% of the 138 candidates above 690 in 2026 were first-time takers.
A NEET-style physics example
A five-step kinematics question, solved and checked.
Question: A car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly at 2 m/s² for 5 s. Find its final speed and the distance covered.
- Given: u = 0, a = 2 m/s², t = 5 s.
- Use v = u + at.
- v = 0 + 2 × 5 = 10 m/s.
- Use s = ut + ½at², so s = 0 + ½ × 2 × 5².
- s = ½ × 2 × 25 = 25 m. Check: v² = 2as gives 100 = 2 × 2 × 25. ✓
So the car reaches 10 m/s and covers 25 m. The check line catches silly errors.
What are the common mistakes AIIMS aspirants make?
- Ignoring board marks. A high NEET rank does not help if you miss the AIIMS 60% rule.
- Guessing too much. Each wrong answer costs 1 mark, so accuracy beats attempting everything.
- Missing counselling deadlines. Rounds move fast. Track every MCC notice.
- Taking a Round 3 seat without thinking. It cannot be resigned and blocks further rounds.
- Trusting unofficial sites. Use neet.nta.nic.in and mcc.nic.in. NTA warns about "seat blocking" scams.
