Cover image: AILET 2027 guide to dates, pattern, fees and a 7-week plan

AILET 2027 (All India Law Entrance Test) is the entrance exam run by National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) for its five-year BA LLB (Hons) and one-year LLM. The exam is on Sunday, 13 December 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm, on pen and paper. The last date to apply is 10 November 2026. Here are the pattern, eligibility, fees, seats and a 7-week plan.

Key takeaways

  • AILET 2027 is on Sunday, 13 December 2026, 2:00-4:00 pm, offline (OMR). Apply by 10 November 2026. Admit cards come out on 30 November 2026.
  • BA LLB paper: 150 MCQs, 150 marks, 120 minutes. English 50, Current Affairs and GK 30, Logical Reasoning 70. Each wrong answer costs 0.25.
  • Eligibility: Class 12 with 45% (42% OBC, 40% SC/ST). Students in Class 12 in 2027 can apply. There is no age limit.
  • Fee: Rs 3,000 (Rs 1,000 for SC/ST/PwD). BPL SC/ST and women candidates pay nothing.
  • 120 BA LLB seats: 110 through AILET, plus 5 for foreign nationals and 5 for OCI/PIO, who skip the test. There are no NRI seats.
  • NLU Delhi does not use CLAT. If you want NLU Delhi, you must sit AILET.

What is AILET 2027?

Quick answer: AILET 2027 is NLU Delhi's own law entrance test for the 2027-28 batch. It fills the BA LLB (Hons) and LLM (one year) seats at NLU Delhi only. The BA LLB paper has 150 multiple-choice questions in two hours, with 0.25 marks taken off for each wrong answer. It is held on 13 December 2026.

NLU Delhi, in Dwarka, New Delhi, does not take part in CLAT. Its FAQ says you cannot get in through CLAT or LSAT. All dates and rules below come from the official AILET 2027 website, the AILET 2027 notification and the Admission Notice 2027-28.

Which courses does AILET 2027 cover?

  • BA LLB (Hons), five years, after Class 12. This is the main focus of this guide.
  • LLM (one year), non-residential, after an LLB.
  • PhD is not through AILET this cycle. The admission notice says PhD and some other PG courses use a separate test, AIET, on 2 May 2027. Its notice comes in January 2027.

AILET 2027 exam pattern

Table of the AILET 2027 BA LLB exam pattern with sections, questions and marks

AILET 2027 BA LLB paper at a glance, from the official exam details page.

The official BA LLB exam details set out the paper:

Section Questions Marks
A. English Language 50 50
B. Current Affairs and General Knowledge 30 30
C. Logical Reasoning 70 70
Total 150 150
  • Time: 120 minutes, so about 48 seconds per question.
  • Marking: +1 for a right answer and -0.25 for a wrong one. Four wrong answers cancel one right answer. Blank answers score 0.
  • Mode: offline, pen and paper, on an OMR sheet.
  • Legal reasoning: there is no separate legal section. NLU Delhi says legal principles "may be used in the logical reasoning section". But the exam "will not require any kind of legal knowledge".
  • Maths: there is no separate quantitative section. Still, the latest paper had number and letter series inside Logical Reasoning.
  • Ties: higher Logical Reasoning marks win. Next, the older candidate. Then a computerised draw of lots.

Logical Reasoning is almost half the paper and breaks ties, so give it the most practice.

What is the LLM paper like?

The LLM exam details list 100 MCQs from different branches of law, 1 mark each, in 120 minutes, with the same -0.25 rule. LLM eligibility is an LLB with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD). Final-year LLB students in 2027 can apply. There are 70 seats through AILET, plus 5 for foreign nationals and 5 for OCI/PIO.

Who is eligible for AILET 2027?

Table of AILET 2027 BA LLB eligibility marks and application fees by category

AILET 2027 eligibility and application fees by category, from NLU Delhi.

Rule AILET 2027 (BA LLB)
Qualifying exam Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent
Minimum marks 45% General; 42% OBC; 40% SC/ST
Class 12 in 2027? Yes, you can apply
Age limit None (no minimum, no maximum)
Foreign national, OCI/PIO 65% in Class 12; no AILET needed
Fee: General, OBC, EWS, foreign Rs 3,000
Fee: SC, ST, PwD Rs 1,000
Fee: SC/ST and women who are BPL Exempt

If you are still waiting for Class 12 results, you can sit AILET. But you must meet the marks rule by the cut-off date that NLU Delhi gives with the result. A student with a compartment in the admission year is treated as ineligible, says the eligibility page.

Can NRI, OCI and foreign students apply for AILET 2027?

  • Foreign nationals (non-Indian citizens with a valid foreign passport) apply on the same portal under their own category. They do not take AILET. They need 65% in Class 12, and merit is based on those marks.
  • OCI/PIO candidates can apply in the OCI/PIO category without AILET. They can also send a second, separate form as an Indian national and write AILET.
  • NRIs who hold Indian citizenship apply like any Indian candidate. The FAQ says there are no NRI seats.
  • The last date for foreign national and OCI/PIO forms is 30 April 2027. Unfilled seats in these groups go to the General category.

See the foreign national page for details.

How many seats are there in AILET 2027?

The BA LLB seat matrix lists 120 seats:

Category Seats
General 50
OBC (non-creamy layer, 22%) 24
SC (15%) 17
ST (7.5%) 8
EWS (10%) 11
AILET merit subtotal 110

AILET 2027 fees: application and course

The college fees below are from the BA LLB fee page. NLU Delhi marks them as provisional.

Worked examples: AILET-style logical reasoning

The latest BA LLB paper had syllogisms, letter-number series, coding, analogies and assumption questions in Logical Reasoning. Below are two practice questions in that style. We wrote them ourselves; they are not from a real paper.

Example 1: syllogism

Question: All tenants are residents. Some residents are voters. No voter is a minor. Which conclusion necessarily follows? I. Some residents are not minors. II. Some tenants are voters.

Animated steps solving an AILET-style syllogism question

An AILET-style syllogism, solved one step at a time.

  1. Write the facts: all tenants are residents; some residents are voters; no voter is a minor.
  2. Look at the residents who are voters. They exist, because "some residents are voters".
  3. No voter is a minor, so those voter-residents are not minors.
  4. So some residents are not minors. Conclusion I follows.
  5. Now test II. The voters could all be residents who are not tenants. Nothing forces a tenant to be a voter. Conclusion II does not follow.
  6. Answer: only I follows.

Method tip: a conclusion "necessarily follows" only if no case breaks it. Try to build one. If you can, reject it.

Example 2: letter-number series

Question: C3, F6, J12, O24, ? A) T48 B) U48 C) U36 D) T42

  1. Split the letters and numbers.
  2. Letters: C(3), F(6), J(10), O(15). The gaps are +3, +4, +5. The next gap is +6, so 15 + 6 = 21, which is U.
  3. Numbers: 3, 6, 12, 24. Each one doubles, so the next is 48.
  4. Answer: B) U48.

Speed tip: write A=1 to Z=26 once at the top of your rough work. Many series and coding questions need it.

How to prepare for AILET 2027 in 7 weeks

From 27 October, there are about 7 weeks to 13 December. Here is a week-by-week plan.

Week Dates (2026) Focus
1 27 Oct-2 Nov Submit the form. Take one full past paper under time. Note your score by section.
2 3-9 Nov Logical Reasoning basics: syllogisms, series, coding, analogies. 40 questions a day.
3 10-16 Nov Critical reasoning: assumptions, inferences, arguments. Reading passages daily.
4 17-23 Nov Two full mocks. Revise current affairs from the last 12 months.
5 24-30 Nov Mixed timed sets. Download admit card on 30 Nov. Plan travel.
6 1-7 Dec Three full mocks. If you also take CLAT, write it on 6 Dec.
7 8-13 Dec Light revision, error log, GK notes. Sleep well. Exam on 13 Dec.

Daily routine (2-3 hours):

  • Logical Reasoning (60 min): one timed set, then check every wrong answer.
  • English (40 min): one reading passage and 15 vocabulary or grammar questions.
  • GK (30 min): read the news and add 10 facts to a notebook. Revise the notebook every Sunday.
  • Error log (15 min): write each mistake, its type and the fix.

Common AILET mistakes to avoid

  • Missing the 10 November deadline. Payment problems can take a day to clear, so apply early.
  • Using a parent's email. The registered email cannot be changed, and all updates go there.
  • Guessing wildly. Each wrong answer costs 0.25. Guess only when you can rule out at least one option.
  • Ignoring Logical Reasoning. It is 70 marks and the first tie-breaker.
  • Studying law for this paper. No legal knowledge is needed. Learn to apply a given principle to the facts.
  • Practising only on screen. AILET is on OMR. Practise shading bubbles with a ball pen.
  • Arriving late. Last cycle, no one could enter after 2:15 pm. Calculators and digital watches were not allowed.

How 1-on-1 tutoring helps with AILET 2027

At Asymptode, one student works with one dedicated mentor in live online classes. No batches. With only weeks left, here is where a mentor can help most:

  • Logical Reasoning method. The mentor watches each step as you solve a syllogism, series or coding question, then fixes the step that fails. This is our core strength.
  • Timing and mock review. The mentor goes through your mocks with you. Together you find where the minutes go and set a section order that fits you.
  • Planning. Your plan follows your dates: AILET on 13 December, CLAT on 6 December if you take it, and your Class 12 exams.
  • English and GK routines. We are honest here: we are not law or English specialists. The mentor helps you set daily reading, vocabulary and current-affairs routines and checks that you keep them.

You get personalised homework with feedback, flexible times across time zones, recorded classes and short updates for parents. See why 1-on-1 tutoring works.

Working with a mentor

How Asymptode can help you prepare

Asymptode teaches maths and science one-to-one, online, from Grade 1 through Grade 12 and for the SAT and AP. A mentor is matched to your child's school year and syllabus, and the class is built around what they get wrong — not around a fixed lesson plan.

  • One mentor, one student, live

Classes are taught one-to-one by a mentor who teaches this subject at your child's school year. They can stop the moment something does not land, and start again from where it broke.

  • The gap gets found, not taught over

Your child works problems in front of their mentor, so a wrong answer is traced back to the idea behind it instead of being marked and left. That is the part reading on your own cannot do.

  • Practice matched to that gap

Work set after a class is written for your child's year and syllabus, and their own mentor approves every sheet before your child sees it.

  • You can see what happened

After each class you can read what was taught, how your child got on, and what to practise next — in your own words, not a mark out of ten.

No score is promised here, and none should be: an exam result depends on the student. What a mentor changes is how quickly a misunderstanding is found and fixed.
