AI Engineer / AI Systems Engineer

This is not a generic ML role. We're looking for an engineer who builds AI systems that reach students: models chosen and tuned for a task, prompts treated as versioned artefacts, retrieval and agent pipelines that hold up in production, and evaluations that tell you honestly whether a change helped. You'll work directly alongside the engineering team, not adjacent to it.

What you'll do

  • Training and fine-tuning models for teaching-specific tasks
  • Prompt engineering as a versioned, tested discipline
  • Build evaluation pipelines that measure quality, not vibes
  • Design RAG systems over our academic content and student context
  • Build agents and model orchestration for multi-step workflows
  • Integrate all of it into the product with the engineering team

What we're looking for

  • Hands-on experience taking LLM features to production
  • Fluency with fine-tuning, retrieval, and agent architectures
  • Rigorous approach to evaluation and regression testing of AI output
  • Strong Python and/or TypeScript, and the judgement to know what to ship

Nice to have

  • Experience with model orchestration frameworks and tool-calling
  • Published work, open-source contributions, or serious side projects
