Three Questions Every Parent Can Ask

You don't need a dashboard to start tracking this. A short conversation with your child's tutor or a few minutes watching them work at home can reveal a lot.

  1. "Can my child explain this concept in their own words, without your help?" This is one of the fastest ways to tell the difference between memorization and real understanding. If they can put it simply in their own language, they've likely internalized it.

  2. "What happens when you give them a problem they've never seen before?" A child who's genuinely learning will reason through something unfamiliar, even without landing on the right answer immediately. That reasoning process is the skill not the final number.

  3. "What has changed in how they approach mistakes?" Watch at home: Do they give up right away? Ask for the answer? Or try a different approach and talk through their thinking? Kids who are progressing tend to get more independent, more curious, and more willing to sit with a problem that doesn't have an obvious answer yet.
